TDR | about tipperary dance residency

HISTORY

Tipperary Dance Residency started in 2008, as the result of a collaboration between four partners working towards the emergence of a contemporary dance culture in South Tipperary:

  1. A venue: Tipperary Excel Arts Centre.

  2. The state: Arts Council of Ireland.

  3. A local authority: Tipperary County Council Arts Service.

  4. Two artists in residency: Jazmin Chiodi and Alexandre Iseli.

AIMS

  1. BUILDING DANCE IN THE COMMUNITY: creating and sustaining a contemporary dance culture in South Tipperary, by offering the community an opportunity to discover dance as practise, and as a form of art.

  2. SUPPORTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF ISELI-CHIODI DANCE COMPANY IN COUNTY TIPPERARY: setting up a framework that supports and nurtures the creative work of the artists in residency, providing space and resources for their practice and creativity in regional Ireland.

  3. PROVIDING A FRAME OF WORK AND RESOURCES FOR PROFESSIONAL DANCE COMPANIES AND ARTISTS: developing and exploiting the Residency as a local resource allowing professional artists to research, create and show their production locally. Provide support to local, national, international artists, within professional standards.

    More on TDR strategy

DANCE IS FOR EVERYONE

Contemporary dance can be accessible and valuable for anyone: it can be practised and understood by all. It is non-competitive, it values and respects your personal qualities and limits.

TDR wants to spark off discovery and enjoyment, whether you are an absolute beginner, a regular dancer, a pre-professional or professional dancer. Dance is an endless and positive journey, for beginner and professionals alike.

Dance practice opens doors for personal development and well-being: it is a wonderful way to embody and integrate one’s true physical and intellectual capacities in daily life, bringing pleasure and enjoyment through rigorous practice. Dance contributes to the development of a lively community
